Regain The Natural Appearance and Feel of Teeth

Our office specializes in dental fillings, the most common procedure to repair and restore teeth, while preventing decay or infection. We prefer composite resin fillings, color-matched to your teeth, as they bond well and require less drilling to fill smaller spaces. This ensures a natural look and feel while maintaining tooth strength and function. Our goal is to provide high-quality dental care that is comfortable, minimally invasive, and effective.

Why are fillings necessary?

  • Untreated cavities can worsen over time, causing more significant dental problems. Filling them early can prevent further damage to the tooth.
  • Tooth decay can lead to painful infections or abscesses, which can be prevented by filling cavities.
  • Cavities can weaken teeth, increasing their susceptibility to damage. Filling cavities can restore strength and durability to the tooth.
  • Filling cavities early on can be more cost-effective than delaying treatment, as it can prevent the need for more expensive dental procedures down the line.
  • Tooth fillings can reduce sensitivity to hot and cold, making eating and drinking more comfortable.
  • Filling cavities is an essential step in preserving your natural smile and avoiding unsightly tooth discoloration or damage.

Many people may view getting a tooth filling as a tedious task, often postponing it, especially when there is no discomfort yet. However, we highly advise that you address any cavities as soon as possible to maintain your dental health. Addressing tooth fillings promptly is crucial for maintaining your dental health and preventing more significant issues down the line.

How is a cavity typically filled in a dental procedure?

Gentle Freezing

Before beginning the cavity filling process, we take the time to carefully numb your gums to ensure a painless experience. We understand that some patients may feel anxious about this step, but it is a crucial part of the process. By gently freezing the area around your tooth, your teeth and the surrounding area become numb, minimizing any discomfort during the procedure.

Filling the Tooth

After ensuring that the numbing process is comfortable, we carefully clean and prepare your tooth for the filling. We then apply an adhesive gel to the affected tooth and mold and sculpt a composite resin (white filling material) to match the contours and bite of your tooth.

Curing the Composite

The composite resin material used to fill or bond your tooth is set using a special LED light, which quickly cures and hardens the material. The dentist then carefully examines your tooth and makes any necessary finishing touches before giving it a final polish for a natural and seamless look.

Frequently Asked Questions

Composite fillings, also referred to as tooth-colored fillings, consist of a mixture of plastic and glass materials, while traditional fillings are typically made from a combination of metals such as mercury, silver, tin, and copper. One key difference between the two types of fillings is their appearance, with composite fillings blending in more seamlessly with natural teeth compared to traditional metal fillings. Additionally, composite fillings are often preferred for their ability to bond more effectively with teeth and for being less invasive than traditional fillings.

The placement of a composite filling usually takes around 30 to 60 minutes per tooth, depending on the size and location of the cavity. Patients should plan to spend a few hours at the dental practice for the entire procedure, which includes time for numbing and preparation.

Composite fillings require the same level of care as natural teeth, including regular brushing and flossing. It is also recommended to schedule regular check-ups with your dentist to ensure that the filling is in good condition and functioning as it should.

Coverage for composite fillings is often included in many dental insurance plans, but the extent of coverage can vary based on the specific plan. To determine your coverage and any potential out-of-pocket costs, it is recommended to check with your insurance provider beforehand.

Yes, composite fillings can be replaced if they become damaged, worn down, or stained over time. Your dentist can assess the condition of your fillings and recommend replacement if necessary.

I had such an INCREDIBLE experience at my first dental appointment. First off, they brought me back in a timely manner. Danielle was thorough when explaining my x-rays, and she also made me feel super comfortable. I usually do not enjoy getting x-rays; however, Danielle was really fun and made me forget about my anxieties. We had a lovely conversation and she took the time to learn a lot about my life. Amy who worked at the front desk was so pleasant. She was prompt in all that she did, and she explained my treatment plan thoroughly. She has a wonderful sense of humor and really took the time to make me feel seen. Dr. Masterson was wonderful and easy to get along with. Overall, I had a lovely experience.
